The certification that pays the rent.
Time: 4–8 hours per specialty · Cost: $0 · Certificate: Google-verified badge, valid 12 months
Google runs the largest ad platform on earth. If you can run paid search, you will always have work — agencies, freelance, and in-house teams all hire for this skill year-round. Skillshop is Google's official training hub, and every certification there is free.
Which Specialty to Start With Start with Google Ads Search. It is the foundation. Display, Video, Shopping, and Measurement build on the same account structure, bidding, and attribution concepts. Search first, then branch.
The six available specializations
- Search — keyword-based text ads (start here)
- Display — banner and visual ads across the Google Display Network
- Video — YouTube ads, skippable and non-skippable
- Shopping — product-feed ads for e-commerce
- Measurement — conversion tracking, attribution, GA4 integration
- Apps — mobile app install and engagement campaigns
The Measurement exam is the easiest of the six and doubles as prep for your GA4 cert in Section 5. Knock it out right after Search.

An hour to a LinkedIn badge taught by Brian Dean.
Time: ~1 hour · Cost: $0 · Certificate: Shareable Semrush Academy badge
Brian Dean built Backlinko into one of the most-read SEO blogs in the world. He teaches this crash course himself, and it covers the 20% of SEO that drives 80% of the traffic — keyword research, on-page optimization, link building, and technical hygiene.
Why This One Is Different Most "free" SEO courses are pitch decks for paid tools. This one teaches fundamentals that work on any stack, and the short format means you finish it. A cert you completed beats ten you abandoned.
What you learn
- Keyword research — intent, volume, and the keyword gap
- On-page SEO — title tags, headers, internal links that move rankings
- Content optimization — how to actually use a target keyword in 2026
- Link building — outreach templates that get replies
- Tracking — which Semrush reports matter for a job interview
Finish the crash course, screenshot the cert, and drop it into your LinkedIn Featured section with a 2-line post about what you learned. Recruiters scroll Featured before they scroll the About section.

Everyone has GA4. Almost nobody knows how to use it.
Time: ~4 hours · Cost: $0 · Certificate: Google-verified Skillshop badge
Universal Analytics shut down in July 2023. Every company had to migrate to GA4, and most did it in a panic. That means the person on a marketing team who can pull a funnel report or build an exploration is the person who keeps the team out of the dark.
GA4 ≠ Universal Analytics GA4 is event-based, not session-based. Most outdated tutorials on YouTube are teaching UA concepts that do not exist anymore. Learn GA4 from Google directly — Skillshop is the source.
What you learn
- Property setup — accounts, streams, and data settings that do not break later
- Events and conversions — the new model and why it matters
- Reports — Realtime, Acquisition, Engagement, Monetization
- Explorations — funnel, path, and cohort reports built by hand
- Audiences — segments you can push into Google Ads for retargeting
After you pass, build a demo dashboard using the Google Merchandise Store public GA4 property. Screenshot it. Put the screenshot on your resume under "projects." It proves you have touched a real account.

The cert that says "I can spend real ad budget and not lose it."
Time: 6–8 hours · Cost: $0 for courses (paid professional exam is optional) · Certificate: Meta-verified digital badge
Facebook and Instagram are where the small-to-mid-size business ad dollars still live. Local gyms, DTC brands, course creators, restaurants — they run Meta ads, and they hire people who can manage the account without torching the budget. Meta Blueprint teaches you the campaign structure, creative strategy, and reporting that those jobs ask for.
Free vs Paid The courses and study materials are free. The Professional Certification Exam costs around $150 and is only worth it once you have real account experience. For the resume, the free course completion badges are enough.
What you learn
- Ads Manager — campaign, ad set, ad structure that actually scales
- Audiences — core, custom, and lookalike audiences
- Creative — thumb-stopping formats for feed, reels, and stories
- Measurement — Pixel, CAPI, and attribution in a post-iOS-14 world
- Optimization — budget, bidding, and the rules of the 9-day learning phase
Run one $20 Meta ad on your own Instagram before you finish the course. Even a 3-day campaign to a landing page teaches you more than any video. Screenshot the Ads Manager report and keep it for interviews.

The Order That Matters Pick 5 from above that map to the job title on the role you want. A recruiter who sees HubSpot + Google Ads + Meta Blueprint + Klaviyo + GA4 on a resume is looking at a complete paid-and-owned marketing stack — not a random list of badges.
